(Memphis) Sunday Baltimore Raven Michael Oher will play in the AFC Championship, just one win away from playing in the Super Bowl.
Sean and Leigh Ann Tuohy adopted Michael when he was in high school taking him out of the violent drug ridden streets of hurt village, and giving him a chance at a game that would change his life.
“There are great kids in ever quadrant, every city, every state in the entire US and they just need some help, and there are Michael Oher’s every time you turn around,” said Leigh Anne Tuohy.
Tuohy says there are several other players on the Ravens team with stories similar to the former Briarcrest and Ole Miss Football star, and she hopes the team’s success this season will inspire others to mentor and help give kids the encouragement they need to follow their dreams.
“There is someone right behind you that needs a little help, and if you can help give them hope and opportunity that can change their life do it,” said Tuohy.
Last year Oher and the Ravens were just one play away from going to the Super Bowl, but lost to the New England Patriot’s in the last seconds.
With the rematch set for Sunday Sean Tuohy hopes for a different turn out this year.
“It is kind of crazy, but we`re excited and last year they came within an inch of going to the Super Bowl so it`s certainly going to make us feel old if they keep taking us to the edge like this,” said Sean Tuohy.
For Michael this could be the chance for a second happy ending, but this time on the field and not on the silver screen.
“He has achieved so many goals and certainly going to the Super Bowl is a goal he wants to achieve,” said Leigh Anne Tuohy.
Oher and his team the Baltimore Ravens will play the New England Patriots Sunday night at 5:30 on News Channel 3.
